Arco de Altar

Its semicircular form, crafted from cotton thread, evokes a threshold: a passage between two worlds, where the dead symbolically return to the World of the Living to reunite with their families before continuing their journey back. It speaks to the transformation and continuity of existence; a guided passage toward Mictlán. A reinterpretation of these ideas through CARALARGA’s textile language.

Arco de Altar brings this notion of passage into a decorative scale. Cotton thread follows the curve of the wooden structure, creating a continuous, lightweight surface that recalls the shape of an entrance or portal. The piece takes as its starting point the relationship between life, death, and return, deeply present in mexican cultural life, and transforms it into a contemporary piece.
