INSPIRATION
Inspired by the arch or u'atsakurï in the purépecha language, traditionally placed on the altar as a symbolic element representing the deceased body or the doorway to heaven, through which the soul makes its journey from the afterlife. The design is layered with the visual richness of frosted cotton yarn, accented with touches of dyed cotton. Its dense, plush texture evokes the warmth of offerings and the glow of pathways illuminated throughout the lakeside region of Michoacán, framing the remembrance and celebration of those who came before us. The connection to Purépecha traditions is especially meaningful, as communities in Michoacán continue to observe rituals dedicated to honoring ancestors through offerings, flowers, candles, and symbolic forms.
This piece becomes a contemporary interpretation where material, repetition, and craftsmanship come together to keep alive a language that continues to evolve through the hands that shape it. Our Marco Purépecha brings balance, tactile richness, and cultural depth to the walls, offering a sculptural expression of how mexican craft traditions can evolve into sophisticated interior pieces, capable of inhabiting contemporary spaces while maintaining a connection to their cultural roots.
