CARALARGA X Homo Faber 2026

CARALARGA X Homo Faber 2026

CARALARGA will be part of Homo Faber 2026: An Island of Light, the 4th edition of the international biennial dedicated to contemporary crafts. The event will take place from September 1st to 30th at the historic Fondazione Giorgio Cini, on the island of San Giorgio Maggiore, Venice; bringing together artisans and creators from different parts of the world around a fundamental question: what happens when matter, creativity and the human hand meet?

For CARALARGA, being part of Homo Faber 2026 represents the opportunity to bring to Venice a part of the journey that we have built around cotton thread, craftsmanship and textile design. From our studio in Querétaro, Mexico, we explore the possibilities of fibers and recovered materials, developing pieces that seek to preserve their essence and at the same time discover new ways of inhabiting spaces.

From cotton threads to objects.

Our work is based on a close relationship with the subject. Raw cotton thread is one of CARALARGA's main  sources of inspiration and prime materials and, and through different textile techniques, it is transformed through weaving, assembly, recovery and braiding processes.

Our designs seek to highlight the qualities and benefits of the raw material in its purest form. The texture, volume, irregularity and movement of thread become essential elements of each piece.

This way of working arises from a constant conversation between craftsmanship and contemporary design. Each object is the result of a collective process in which the artisans hands, technical knowledge and design exploration meet to transform a simple fiber into a Large Format piece with its own personality.

In this sense, CARALARGA's work is essentially linked to Homo Faber vision: an international movement that seeks to recognize and value creative artisans and the different ways in which knowledge, matter and hands give rise to significant objects.

"An Island of Light"

The 2026 edition of Homo Faber, titled An Island of Light, has been conceived under the artistic direction of british artist and designer Es Devlin. The exhibition explores the relationship between light, materials and the human hand through 15 immersive installations distributed in the historical spaces of the Fondazione Giorgio Cini.

Inspired by the venetian lagoon archipelago, this edition narrative connects the work of hundreds of creators from around of world, understanding each one as an island of talent and knowledge within a common territory: the craftsmanship.

The exhibition brings together more than 500 artisans, 700 objects and representatives from more than 70 countries. Developing an international panorama of practices, materials and creation forms.

Within this context, our participation takes on a special meaning. Cotton thread, an everyday and essential material for our practice, becomes a means to talk about something much broader: the relationship between matter, craft, time and creativity.

The meaning of hands.

At CARALARGA we understand each piece as part of a process that begins long before the finished object. Behind every texture, every joint and every detail there is a sequence of decisions and gestures learned over time.

Craftsmanship is not only the final result. It is also the knowledge that is transmitted, the techniques that evolve and the ability to transform materials by hand.

Therefore, being part of Homo Faber 2026 in Venice means sharing our work within an international community that recognizes precisely that value. It is an opportunity to show how from Mexico we can approach contemporary design through our own materials, techniques and ways of doing things.

From Mexico to Venice.

Our journey began exploring the cotton thread possibilities and textile remnants, and over time it has extended to decoration pieces, objects and projects that seek to transform spaces through texture and materiality.

Arriving in Venice with this work represents a new stage in that journey, but also an opportunity to continue a conversation that has no borders: what we can create when we let the materials speak and when the hands continue to play a central role in the design process.

CARALARGA / MORSE →

In Homo Faber 2026: An Island of Light, CARALARGA joins an international artisans community and designers to celebrate precisely that dialogue. An encounter between cotton and craft, between tradition and experimentation, between the hands that transform matter and ideas that allow it to find new forms.

From Mexico to Venice, we carry with us the thread, the hands and the time that are part of each CARALARGA piece.
